The main idea is to handle concerns about a colleague by addressing them directly with the colleague, as long as doing so would not put anyone at risk. This direct conversation serves as a first step to corrective action, giving the teammate a chance to clarify, adjust behavior, or explain any misunderstandings, while maintaining professional accountability within the field. It helps protect clients and uphold ethical standards without immediately escalating to formal reporting.

If confronting the colleague isn’t safe—for example, if there’s a real risk of harm or retaliation—then escalation to the appropriate authority becomes necessary. It’s not appropriate to discuss the concerns with clients, and ignoring vague concerns only leaves potential issues unaddressed.
